"Alfred" is one of two surviving steam locomotives built for use at Par Harbour in Cornwall (the other, "Judy", features later in the collection). The dimensions of the locomotives are a result of tight curves and low bridges in the port.
My visit to the PBR's autumn gala in 2012 came about as a result of not being able to go to Dorset, and wanting something to replace the Swanage Railway Autumn Gala (where the two locomotives were also visiting). This was my second visit to the railway, and this time around I didn't have to contend with fog, which had plagued my first visit two years earlier.
