Just to the north of Mierystock Bridge is the south portal of Mierystock Tunnel. This photograph was taken from Mierystock Bridge, seen in the previous photograph, but when I first visited the location in 1998, this view was heavily overgrown and the tunnel portal could not be seen. However, by 2007, the former trackbed had been cleared and the portal was visible again.
The north portal is inaccessible by the general public (I tried to see if I could find it on this visit, but the land appears to be part of a quarry now), and until recently was buried. There have been calls for the cyclepath between here and Lydbrook to be diverted through the tunnel rather than users having to cross the A4136 Gloucester to Monmouth Road.
