Normally, I tend to schedule my visits to the Dean Forest Railway in October, but 2013 saw a visit in September instead. I had been considering doing the Severn Valley Railway Gala on this particular weekend, but the two locomotives that I had particularly wanted to photograph were withdrawn, and I wasn't too bothered about pursuing their replacements. Deciding I wanted to free up October for National Trust work, and expecting some sunshine on this particular day (which I didn't really get), I chose to visit the DFR ahead of schedule.
